Give yourself the musical gift of a Chatham County Line Electric Holiday Tour show this weekend

If, like me, you missed a chance to catch Chatham County Line’s “electric” show, you’re in luck.

The Raleigh, North Carolina-based acoustic string ensemble played the set last year at MerleFest and the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA)’s annual festival.

But they’re far from done.

These harmonic boys, whose music has been described as falling somewhere between Del McCoury and the Jayhawks, are back in Richmond, Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and Saxapahaw, North Carolina, over the next three days.

Trust me, you don’t want to miss this show. Continue reading

On Huffington Post: Exclusive premiere of Chatham County Line’s video ‘All That’s Left’

Read the following post on The Huffington Post here.

I first had the pleasure of hearing Chatham County Line play live at MerleFest a few years ago and then again in the summer of 2015 at The Steel Wheel’s Red Wing Roots Music Festival. What initially drew me to this Raleigh, North Carolina-based quartet is that in addition to the unique mix of bluegrass, folk and Americana tunes they harmonize so beautifully on is the fact that they typically crowd around a single, large, silver radio microphone. And that’s not the band’s only nod to the past. Much like Jerry Douglas’s Earls of Leicester, they perform in old-timey tailored suits, harkening back to the Golden Age of the Grand Ole Opry.

The Judy Chops wrap up ‘Bad Like Me’ EP Tour with stops in Floyd, Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Aug. 12-13

Red Wing Roots Music Festival attendees know The Judy Chops, self-described as a mountain swing band, put on one heck of a live performance. I’m not sure what you call the group’s unique blend of swing, blues and rock with shades of classic country thrown in, but I call them a good time. The group is currently touring to promote its newest EP, “Bad Like Me.”

If you haven’t had the chance to catch one of the band’s shows, this weekend provides you with two opportunities if you are in or near southwest Virginia.

Travis Book and Sara Siskind open for Mary Chapin Carpenter on June 8 at Carolina Theatre

You may recognize Winston-Salem native and singer-songwriter Sarah Siskind from the ABC hit “Nashville” and her equally talented husband Travis Book of The Infamous Stringdusters. The duo are working on an album to be released later this year as Sunliner, which has performed at Rooster Walk and Red Wing Roots festivals, among others. Sunliner debuted with a new drummer, the venerable Jeff Sipe, at White Squirrel Festival in Brevard in May.

Book and Siskind, who performed at The Rives Theatre on Valentine’s Day 2015 (did I mentioned they are married?) , are opening for the incomparable Mary Chapin Carpenter at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, at the historic Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina. Carpenter is touring in support of her new full-length album, “The Things That We Are Made Of,” which was released in May to critical acclaim.
