Color me impressed. Just a few years ago, one of my friends mentioned that she thought I would enjoy Rooster Walk, an annual grassroots music festival held just outside Martinsville, Va. She knew I was a diehard MerleFest and FloydFest fan and thought I should check out this festival that was family friendly, and much closer to my Madison, N.C., home. At her suggestion, I took a look at the lineup. My first reaction was: “I’ve never heard of any of these bands.”
Fast-forward to today when Rooster Walk organizers announced that Lake Street Dive, one of the hottest new bands out there, is going to headline Rooster Walk 7 on May 21-24, 2015, at its new location at Pop’s Farm in Axton, Va. The female-led band from Brooklyn join the Steep Canyon Rangers, Southern Culture on the Skids, Yarn, Dangermuffin, BIG Something and The Mantras, among many others. Find the current lineup here.
Organizers have promised the festival headliner will be announced shortly after ticket prices increase on March 15. Currently tickets to the four-day festival are $115 for General Admission weekend passes and $250 for VIP. The festival not only includes a great music lineup but a variety of kids’ activities, a healing arts area, food vendors, arts & crafts vendors, and a free fan shuttle.
