Year in Review: My favorite musical picks for 2017

While 2017 will be remembered for many things, it turned out to be a great year for new music. Artists including Steve Earle & the Dukes, Lee Ann Womack, Chris Stapleton, Rhiannon Giddeons and Jason Isbell turned out some amazing albums over the past 12 months, but you don’t need me to tell you that.

Instead, I am going to focus on my own purely subjective list that evolves mainly from music festivals I attended, interviews I conducted and stories I published online on this blog, HalfwaySouth.com or on HuffPost that features my favorite genres (primarily folk, Americana, country, rock) and up-and-coming artists that I hope you will take the time to listen to in the coming year and beyond.

Singer-songwriter Tyler Barham is ready to make ‘History’ with new EP release

You can help singer-songwriter Tyler Barham make “History” with his newest EP, which charted at No. 7 on the iTunes Country Album Chart on May 19, 2017.
Madison, North Carolina, native John Griffin is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter, who was a co-writer on three of the EPs songs: “History,” “Outrun the Radio” and “Don’t Need to Know.”

Tyler Barham returns to Autumn Creek Vineyards on Feb. 1

If you’re a country music fan, you won’t want to miss the chance to check out Tyler Barham live at Autumn Creek Vineyards on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 2-5:30 p.m. in the Tasting Room. There’s no cover charge. He played in Pilot Mountain on Thursday and in Greensboro on Friday at WineStyles. Named Billboard’s 10 Country Artists to Watch in 2014, the might be your last chance to catch Barham free.
