Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s own Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, who make up one of today’s premiere American roots duos, will be playing live at 8:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday, April 26 on Instagram, Facebook and Youtube!
Any donations that come in via PayPal or Venmo (@mandomarlin) will be split 50/50 with the Compass Center for Women and Families, an organization that provides resources and shelter to those experiencing domestic violence.
In the meantime, check out this interview with Mandolin Orange I published a while back on Huffington Post.
Gaelic Storm, Santa Monica, California’s internationally renowned Celtic band, has been topping the Billboard World Music Charts for decades.
The band also announced its full lineup on its new festival website, designed by none other than Danylo Fedoryka, that is full of visuals and videos to give fans a sense of the festival.
In an email, the band writes: “We invite you to our hometown for a music festival set under the Blue Ridge Mountains. Appaloosa is making waves and was chosen by Virginia Tourism to receive a ‘Virginia is for Music Lovers’ grant. We hope you can come join us this Labor Day Weekend and allow us to host you in our hometown of Front Royal, Virginia!”
In addition to Gaelic Storm and Scythian, Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s Mandolin Orange will also headline. The lineup includes Town Mountain, Humming House, Fireside Collective, Mountain Duo and Will Overman, among many others.

With just one week until MerleFest 2018, the campus of Wilkes Community College in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, is buzzing with activity. The festival, presented by Window World, kicks off next Thursday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m., and runs through Sunday, April 29; an estimated 75,000-plus participants will gather at this year’s annual homecoming of musicians and music lovers to celebrate the world renowned MerleFest.
The prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest has announced the 2018 finalists that will perform at MerleFest. The final round of the competition will take place Friday, April 27; first place winners will receive $600 cash and a Friday night performance slot on the Cabin Stage. Now in its 26th year, CASC is an extraordinary opportunity for songwriters to have their original songs heard and judged by a panel of Nashville music industry professionals, under the direction of volunteer contest chairperson, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Jim Lauderdale. MerleFest, presented by Window World, spans from April 26-29 in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, at Wilkes Community College.
For years I have discovered some of my favorite artists — Scythian, Mandolin Orange, Front Country, Tift Merritt, Carolina Chocolate Drops and Rhiannon Giddens, just to mention a few — at MerleFest. And this year it appears the good folks at MerleFest has upped the ante on finding some new favorites with its announcement of “10 Fresh Faces to Catch at MerleFest:”
To know me is to know that the lineup announcement for the second annual 2018 Cold Mountain Music Festival at Lake Logan set for June 8-9 has me pretty excited.
They had me at Shovels & Rope, Mandolin Orange, River Whyless, The Steel Wheels and Jon Stickley Trio, and that’s not all the acts!
The event will raise funds and awareness for Lake Logan and Camp Henry. The centerpiece of the 300-acre property is a mile-long lake surrounded by the Shining Rock Wilderness Area of Pisgah National Forest, according to the website.
So if you, like me, are interested in checking out this festival, head over to http://coldmountainmusic.org to buy tickets or for more information.
