“Following a four-year hiatus, Jack the Radio is back. It’s the Raleigh rock scene’s dream come true. Jack the Radio is back with a new album and a collab beer with Trophy Brewing—a Helles lager with 100% NC Pilsner malt dubbed Jack the Radio Fast Fun (a nod to their 2023 single). After a four-year hiatus, the roots rockers are set to drop Under Lonely Light June 21, with a release show slated for June 22 at The Pour House feat. Fancy Gap, a comic release and vinyl fresh off the presses.

The North Carolina State Fair always sports a great music lineup and this year is no exception. Its “Homegrown Music Fest” concert series features 11 days, three stages and 117 performances from Oct. 11-21. My advice is that while you’ll certainly want to catch some of the headliners — Raleigh’s own American Aquarium, the War and Treaty, New Reveille, Summer Brooke and the Mountain Faith Band, RaeLynn and Bucky Covington — make sure you catch some of the lesser-known acts on the Waterfall andHeritage Circle Bluegrass stages.
It wasn’t that many years ago that I discovered country, rock superstar singer-songwriter Eric Church, who as you may recall is a North Carolina native, playing for a small crowd at the fairgrounds’ Dorton Arena. Tickets were $5 because at the time you had to pay extra for concert tickets. Good luck finding a $5 or even $50 ticket to one of Church’s shows today.
Dorton Arena shows begin at 7:30 p.m. each night. Lineup for the show begins no earlier than 6 p.m. and doors are at 7 p.m. Each show is free with State Fair admission, and seating in the arena is first-come, first-served general admission.
I recommend making time to see Jack the Radio, the Pinkerton Raid, Katie Basden, Jump Mountain, David Childers, Big Fat Gap and Carolina Line Bluegrass Band among many others too numerous to list on the Waterfall and Heritage Circle Bluegrass stages.

The Americana band, New Reveille, which recently signed a label and management deal with Loud & Proud Records, will release “The Keep” on Sept. 7, 2018. George Hage, of Raleigh-based indie rockers Jack the Radio fame, will make a slight departure from the band’s bigger sound by performing a solo, acoustic set from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, at the Muddy Creek Cafe, 5455 Bethania Road, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The event is free and open to the public.
Jack the Radio is teaming up with Raleigh’s Trophy Brewing Companyfor a “Pretty Money” video and beer release party to celebrate the fifth year-plus anniversary of Jack the Radio’s debut album of the same name.
The indie, roots rockers’ free event is set for 6 to 10 p.m. at Trophy on Maywood, 656 Maywood Ave., on Thursday, Feb. 2.

It’s been six years since North Carolina-based <a href=”http://www.jacktheradio.com/home” target=”_hplink”>Jack the Radio</a> took aim at what members of the group called the “groove-heavy, southern-tinged gap” in the Raleigh music scene.
I had the pleasure of hearing this alt-country Southern rock band play live at <a href=”http://calebcaudle.com/” target=”_hplink”>Caleb Caudle</a>’s “Carolina Ghost” album release show earlier this year at <a href=”http://www.the-garage.ws/” target=”_hplink”>The Garage</a> in Winston-Salem. Now, Jack the Radio has its own release to share.
