MerleFest 2017 adds Béla Fleck, The Earls of Leicester featuring Jerry Douglas to 30th anniversary lineup

As if you needed another reason to go to MerleFest this year,  Béla Fleck and The Earls of Leicester featuring Jerry Douglas, a supergroup homage to Flatt & Scruggs made up of several of bluegrass’s finest musicians, have been added to the 30th annual event honoring the late, great Doc Watson and his son, Merle, on Saturday, April 29, on the campus of Wilkes Community College.

On Huffington Post: MerleFest Band Competition features possible future festival headliners

The following piece also ran on The Huffington Post here.

Headliners such as John Prine, Jason Isbell and John Oates have drawn nearly 80,000 Americana music fans annually to the hills of MerleFest on the campus of Wilkes Community College each April for the past 28 years. But it is the young musicians trying to make their mark who can provide some of the freshest and transcendent moments at this festival founded by the legendary Doc Watson, who called it “traditional-plus” music.

Dwight Yoakam to make first appearance at MerleFest 2015, Steep Canyon Rangers and Shannon Whitworth also added

MerleFest fans: If you have never seen Dwight Yoakam perform live, you are in for a treat at this year’s festival! The good folks over in Wilkesboro just announced that Yoakam will be performing on the Watson stage for the first time. The festival is also welcoming banjo-songstress Shannon Whitworth and perennial faves and N.C. natives Steep Canyon Rangers, who are also schedule to perform at Rooster Walk 7 over Memorial Day weekend in Axton, Va.
