2022 N.C. State Fair Folk Festival features some of state’s top musical talent

The N.C. State Fair has a tradition of featuring some of the state’s most talented artists and this year is no exception.

For 2022, the N.C. State Fair Folk Festival has moved to Heritage Circle next to the historic church. Talented musicians from across North Carolina feature performances ranging from old-time bluegrass music to folk and Americana.

I am looking forward to hearing some of my personal favorites —
Into the Fog, Big Daddy Love, The Barefoot Movement, Violet Bell, Abigail Dowd — as well as being introduced to new talent such as Sweet Potato Pie, Russ Thompson, Jarrett Raymond and Dawn Landes, among others.

Carrboro Music Festival celebrates 21st annual event with 200 acts across 29 venues Sept. 29-30, 2018

The 2018 Carrborro Music Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, and Sunday, Sept. 30. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the festival that will feature 200 acts across 29 venues.

Saturday’s kick-off event will feature three bands at Carrboro Town Commons, beginning at 2 p.m. following the Farmer’s Market. A free, ticketed, show will be held at the Cat’s Cradle at 8:30 p.m.

The Carrboro Music Festival is an effort to showcase Triangle-area performers and the varied musical styles they represent, according to the website. All of the performers donate their talents to foster a strong sense of community and to reveal their talents to a wider audience.

And while the acts are too numerous to mention, I am particularly excited to see some of my personal favorites, including Triad-based Abigail Dowd and newly relocated to the Triangle Will Overman, among this year’s performers.

The event is a product of a coordinated effort by the Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department and the Carrboro Music Festival Planning Committee.

This program is supported by the Town of Carrboro and the Carrboro Tourism Development Authority.  Generous support is also provided by the local business community.

Find a map and list of all the acts and times here: http://www.carrboromusicfestival.com/DocumentCenter/View/3119/2018-Carrboro-Music-Festival-Guide–Map?bidId=

Muddy Creek Songwriters Festival features 52 performers on April 8-9

If you’re a fan of singer/songwriters or men and women and their guitars as my husband likes to call them, then you won’t want to miss the Muddy Creek Songwriters Festival set for Saturday, April 8, and Sunday, April 9, in historic Bethania, North Carolina. Tickets are a bargain and range from $12 to $22 in advance and $15 to $25 at the door.

I have had the pleasure of hearing a number of these uber talented artists perform at Muddy Creek over the past few months including Sam Tayloe, Tyler Nail, Abigail Dowd and Leah Shaw, and trust me when I say you don’t want to miss this opportunity.

If you are feeling a little cash poor, head over to the Muddy Creek Cafe where you can find more talent, including Seth Williams and Doug Davis, playing for tips or the Alpha Chapel Stage across the street for free concerts sponsored by the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op. All shows welcome all ages.
