Tickets still available for Victor Wainwright & The WildRoots, Left Hip Pocket at Pop’s Farm on Friday, July 15

Victor Wainwright & The WildRoots will perform with Left Hip Pocket on Friday, July 15, at Pop’s Farm (home of Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival), 675 Hobson Road, Martinsville, Virginia, at an outdoor show presented by Memorial Hospital and The Rives Theatre. Tickets are $15 ($20 at gate) and are available at Woodall’s Music and Sound, Daily Grind Coffee House & Cafe – Martinsville and online. Music starts at 8 p.m.

“This will be one of the most entertaining shows of the year,” writes Bob Phillips on The Rives Theatre Facebook page. “It is an absolutely must see event.”

Serendipity Metro Deli & Coffee House will have a food truck set up at the concern and there will be  Oscar Blues Brewery beer on tap. Camping is not available, however, according to organizers so make sure you plan accordingly.

Martinsville Ballpark Beer Fest, summer shows on tap at Pop’s Farm

Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival fans are already looking forward to the 2017 Memorial Day event, but until then there are several upcoming entertainment opportunities in and around Martinsville, Virginia, to tide you over.

First, the Ballpark Beer Fest is Saturday, July 9, in the grass at Hooker Field. More than 60 types of craft beer will be available plus live music from The Low Low Chariot from 7-11 p.m. Get tickets and more info at http://martinsvillemustangs.com/beerfest.htm

It sold out last year so grab your tickets now OR email roosterwalk@gmail.com to sign up as a beer pourer and get in for FREE!

Then, on Friday, July 15, Victor Wainwright & The WildRoots will perform with Left Hip Pocket at Pop’s Farm for an outdoor show sponsored by The Rives Theatre. Tickets are $15/$20.

Finally, on Saturday, Aug. 20, Martinsville-area native Josh Shilling will bring his band Mountain Heart along with Southwest Virginia-based Annabelle’s Curse for another outdoor show at Pop’s Farm presented by Rooster Walk. Tickets are  $25/$30.

Stop Light Observations to make Rives Theatre debut on Thursday, June 23

Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival attendees became instant fans of the Charleston-based rock band Stop Light Observations (SLO) when it performed on the Lake Stage at RW7 before Yonder Mountain String Band.

Lansing NC Blues Festival set for Saturday, June 18

The Lansing, North Carolina, Blues Festival is set for Saturday, June 18, in association with Boondocks Brewing/Scott Harris Guitar Shop/Mike Carr Karate and presented by V-Muse Production.

Bands include The Fairlanes, Abe Reid, Lawyers Guns & Money, Blind Dog Gatewood, Seth Williams, Chrysocolla and The Lansing Blues Band. Tickets are $10.  Call Lansing Town Hall for tickets 1-336-384-3938.

Scythian to perform at The Forum on Friday, June 17, in Arlington, Virginia

Fans may be surprised to learn that the founding members of Scythian, a Washington, D.C.-based Celtic rock band, didn’t like Irish music originally.

But when brothers Alexander and Danylo Fedoryka were in college at the  Franciscan University of Stuebenville, Ohio, Alex became obsessed with an Irish fiddler. Alex, who was a classically trained musician, said, “What is that? Whatever that is, I’ve got to do it.”

The Gatlin Brothers to headline free July 4 Celebration 2016 at Martinsville Speedway

If you are looking for some free entertainment, carnival rides and a spectacular fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day 2016, look no further than the Martinsville (Virginia) Speedway, just north of the North Carolina state line.

The following announcement is from the good folks at Martinsville Speedway:

For more than 60 years Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers have entertained crowds of all-ages. On July 4, they will bring the show to Martinsville Speedway, as the headline band for Celebration 2016.

The Rogues will be the night’s musical opener. Celebration 2016 is free and open to the public.
