Shiloh Hill announces new music, new ‘Autumn Roots’ tour on heels of ‘Wildflower’ album release

In light of Shiloh Hill’s Thursday, March 1, show at Muddy Creek Music and Dance Hall in Bethania, North Carolina, with Brooklyn-based Common Jack, I thought I would re-post this story I wrote about this uber talented Winston-Salem-based group in October. Tickets for tonight’s show are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Shiloh Hill also made my “Favorite Musical Picks for 2017” published here and on The Huffington Post for the group’s most recent album, “Wildflower.” Go check them out. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Shiloh Hill is a self-described eclectic folk-rock band that layers traditional folk instruments over a rock band rhythm section. My husband and I had the pleasure of discovering their unique sound recently at Craft City Sip-In in Greensboro, North Carolina, where the band is based.

Dom Wier explores ‘New Waters’ with solo release

As I sit here on a rainy Sunday afternoon, it seems appropriate that I’m listening to Dom Wier‘s first solo EP release, “New Waters.”

Maybe it’s because we both grew up in Southern Illinois, but I can relate to this mix of hillbilly rock and roots combined with bluesy,  moving ballads. Weir’s songs make me want to jump in my Chevy and take a winding country cruise through the hills and the hollers with the windows rolled down and the radio blasting. Continue reading

Taylor Swift vs. Ed Sheeran: Models for releasing new music continue to evolve

D8sZ0Lj

Music artists are faced with a conundrum today that is worthy of a song. And it’s not just music artists. Ask anyone who is trying to promote a book or any other form of artistry. Do you give your artistic works away to gain exposure? Or do you try to get fans to pay for your hard-earned efforts, instead?

For example, many musicians these days are giving away new tunes on Amazon Prime, Apple Music, SoundCloud and Spotify, just to name a few, in order to try to build a following in the hopes that the masses will then seek out live shows. Continue reading

Wild Ponies get back to their roots with ‘Galax’

Wild Ponies Album Release Show is Friday, Oct. 13, at the Rives Theatre. Tickets are $15/$18 (Season Passes Accepted).

lsnedeker's avatarmusicreporterblog

What happens when you throw a group of Nashville and Galax, Virginia, musicians who have never played together in a barn behind a farmhouse nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains? Musical magic.

That’s exactly what happened a year ago this month when the Wild Ponies – otherwise known as Doug and Telisha Williams – decided to get back to their musical and geographic roots.

“I had spent a lot time playing on my grandfather’s farm and it’s just a beautiful place to spend some time,” Doug said in a recent phone interview. “We wanted to play with people who played with my grandfather and then get some people from Nashville to play as well. It just felt like something we needed to do.”
