Town Mountain, Tift Merritt and Caleb Caudle among artists playing Yep Roc’s Benefit For The ACLU of NC on March 11 at Cat’s Cradle

Asheville, North Carolina-based Town Mountain has just announced it is joining the Yep Roc Records’ Sing Out!, a night of songs and solidarity being held in support of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of North Carolina at The Cat’s Cradle on Saturday, March 11. Tickets are only $15.
“In today’s political climate, we need now more than ever, a great source for accountability,” says Town Mountain’s banjo player Jesse Langlais in a press release. “The ACLU is that entity. Town Mountain is proud to take part in an event to help fight the good fight.”
Tift Merritt, Caleb Caudle and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig from Mountain Man will also be performing. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30.

MerleFest 2017 adds Béla Fleck, The Earls of Leicester featuring Jerry Douglas to 30th anniversary lineup

As if you needed another reason to go to MerleFest this year,  Béla Fleck and The Earls of Leicester featuring Jerry Douglas, a supergroup homage to Flatt & Scruggs made up of several of bluegrass’s finest musicians, have been added to the 30th annual event honoring the late, great Doc Watson and his son, Merle, on Saturday, April 29, on the campus of Wilkes Community College.

Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival 2017 features impressive lineup including Blue Highway, Don Flemons

The organizers of the Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival held just west of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, each September has announced its 2017 lineup and it is impressive. Among the acts scheduled to perform are IBMA winners Blue Highway, Carolina Chocolate Drops co-founder Don Flemons and Asheville’s Fireside Collective. At $15 for a full day pass (children 12 and younger are free with a paying adult), you’re not going to find a better musical bargain.

If you want to catch a preview of one of these acts, Fireside Collective is playing at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Foothills Brewing in Winston-Salem. You can find details here.

MerleFest’s 2017 Chris Austin Songwriting Contest closes on Feb. 1

Just a reminder to all the songwriters out there, the deadline to enter MerleFest‘s Chris Austin Songwriting Contest is Feb. 1, 2017. This contest has helped launched the careers of Gillian Welch, Abigail Washburn and Mipso’s Joseph Terrell, who just happens to be a judge this year.

2016 Piedmont Blues Preservation Society winners perform at IBC ‘Memphis or Bust Showcase and Fundraiser’ on Sunday, Jan. 15, at Greensboro’s The Blind Tiger

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Piedmont Blues Preservation Society (PBPS) 2016 Blues Challenge winners Gabe Morales (Youth), Seth Williams and Terry VunCannon (Duo) and Laura Blackley & The Wildflowers (Band) are set to perform at the “Memphis or Bust Showcase and Fundraiser,” on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Blind Tiger, 1819 Spring Garden St. Tickets are $10 for non-PBPS members, $8 for PBPS members and are available at the door. The event also includes a 50/50 raffle, silent auction and an Autographed Guitar Raffle. Williams and VunCannon can be heard performing at 7 p.m. Friday at the Muddy Creek Cafe, 5455 Bethania Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Williams and VunCannon are also playing another fundraiser for the trip from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at The Mad Bean in Madison, North Carolina.
