From the good folks at Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival:
Rooster Walk and Deschutes Brewery are joining forces to present world-renowned gypsy jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel & His Band at Pop’s Farm on Saturday, Sept. 23. Amazing local jazz group 5 Brothers (featuring David Oakes) will kick off the evening. Tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 day of show and are available here.
Camping won’t be offered, but the Dutch Inn will have a special $65 room rate that includes complimentary breakfast. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. Parking is free, and there will be a food truck vendor onsite.
He’s been called “a revelation” by Rolling Stone. Woody Allen recruited him to score the theme to the 2012 Academy Award winning film Midnight in Paris, and he performed live during this year’s Oscar’s telecast. To say that French-born guitarist/composer Wrembel — who learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside — has already had a remarkable career would be an understatement. But this virtuoso, who is now Brooklyn-based, has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music.
Upcoming Rooster Walk-sponsored shows include:
Wild Ponies album release show at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the historic Rives Theatre in uptown Martinsville, Virginia

Although they’re based in Nashville, Tennessee, Wild Ponies have always looked to Southwest Virginia where bandmates Doug and Telisha Williams were both born and raised for inspiration. There, in mountain towns like Galax, old-time American music continues to thrive, supported by a community of fiddlers, flat-pickers and fans. Wild Ponies pay tribute to that powerful music and rugged landscape with 2017’s “Galax”, a stripped-back album that nods to the bands history while still pushing forward. Doug and Telisha took some of their favorite musicians from Nashville (Fats Kaplin, Will Kimbrough, Neilson Hubbard and Audrey Spillman) and met up with revered Old-Time players from Galax, Virginia (Snake Smith, Kyle Dean Smith, and Kilby Spencer). Recorded in the shed behind Dougs old family farm in the Appalachians (steps away from the site where Doug and Telisha were married), it returns Wild Ponies to their musical and geographic roots. Tickets are available at the Daily Grind and Rising Sun Breads, or buy them online here.
Commonheart with Prosperity’s Folly at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Rives Theatre
Leftover Salmon at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Rives Theatre
