According to The Rives Facebook page, “Our first ever New Year’s Eve Party is going to be flat-out AWESOME!! Martinsville’s favorite band, Yarn, will be throwing down. The Morgan Wade Band will start the night with a 9 p.m. set. Plus we’ll fire up the Big Screen TV for coverage of Times Square and the ball dropping. … Since their start in 2007, Yarn’s original Americana sound has developed into music that seekers of the unique see as the soundtrack to their lives. Yarn’s albums were recognized by the AMA’s and R&R radio charts, spending time in the top 5 at their highest point. Yarn has become one of the hardest-working and harder-touring bands for this generation’s digital natives and new music followers.”
Arts at the Rives Theatre (ART) is a community nonprofit dedicated to preserving the historic Rives Theatre by offering high-quality musical, educational and artistic programming. This volunteer-run organization is devoted to transforming the Rives Theatre from a movie house into a live-music venue and a community space for arts and education.
The Rives Theatre was formed in 1932 as a playhouse, then later enjoyed more than seven decades of success as a first-run movie house. Now, the movie theatre has been transformed into a live music venue. There is a stage in front of the screen, room for 50+ on the dance floor and roughly 200 permanent seats.
