88.5 WFDD, Winston-Salem’s NPR affiliate, is teaming up with Paul Brown to bring back “Across The Blue Ridge,” a popular program featuring Appalachian music and cultural history of the Blue Ridge region. Beginning in the late ’80s, the program ran for more than a decade until Brown left to become an executive, editor, producer, reporter and world newscaster at NPR in Washington, D.C., according to WFDD’s website.

“‘Across the Blue Ridge’ was a beloved cultural institution and a home on the radio for Appalachian music and cultural history of the Blue Ridge region. It has been sorely missed by our listeners, who have often asked for its return. We are delighted to be partnering with Paul Brown to bring it back!”

From 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, the radio station is hosting a IndieGoGo kick off event at Muddy Creek Music Hall to raise funds to support the program. Interested in donating? You can contribute here.

Brown says on the IndieGoGo page: “We’ve had a lot of requests for a return of Across the Blue Ridge, the great little show that nearly everybody loves! Old time; bluegrass; blues; gospel music; stage shows; interviews; features; great stories. WFDD and listeners want it, and I said I’ll do it, starting Jan. 2. And unlike 17 years ago, now technology lets you listen wherever you are, via live streaming and podcasts.
