If MerleFest marks the beginning of the summer music festival season, Front Porch Fest is the unofficial end.
Beginning today (Aug. 29), the live music festival featuring a variety of genres runs through Sunday. It is held on the Spirit Haven Farm, which is located on a 130 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Stuart, Va. There are three stages, children’s activities, food, vendors, craft brews and camping is included with all weekend passes.
This year’s acts include Asheville’s Jon Stickley Trio, who played at MerleFest, and Virginia’s own After Jack, who performed at Rooster Walk 6 and were named 2014’s Best Local Roots Band by the Red Wing Roots Music Festival.
It’s also for a good cause. According to the festival website, proceeds are donated to local charities including the Patrick County Food Bank, Caring Hearts Free Clinic and the Patrick County Skate Park. “We think it’s imperative to give back to the community and Front Porch Fest is our way of making a difference in our little area of the planet.”
